Keeping promises

Reducing expenditures in government, as in life, is difficult, complicated work.

Like people, agencies get accustomed to certain revenue levels. It’s akin the household budget, except super-sized. The BWC recently had its budget signed into law – a budget that has been trimmed by almost $80 million bucks. The BWC is funded by business receipts, not taxpayer money, so claims of largess here are a bit less relevant.

What is relevant is that our Governor is keeping the promises he’s made to the people of Ohio. He’s asking his lieutenants that head our state’s agencies to trim the fat. And when it comes to the unstaffed Ohio Worker’s Compensation Council – with a budget of $942,000 – I would very be surprised if the legislature weren’t working on some manner of plan. As Kasich’s spokesman Rob Nichols put it, “we expect the legislature will determine how the council should be staffed.”

Likely with people who can advise the Bureau on how to work more efficiently.
