In a statement today reiterating his support for the use of fracking to extract natural gas in New York State, Mayor Michael Bloomberg today backed the use of the practice, with the caveat that it be far away from the water supply of New York City.

Bloomberg, a former finance and media magnate, is a high profile supporter of the practice. It could also be argued that he skews progressive on most political issues, especially as relate to social policy within New York City.

As a three-term mayor of the city, let’s see if his support holds sway with the state government.
